Many Authors + Many Books =

Many Autographed Books!

One of the “signatures” of our store is…an author’s autograph in his or her book! Authors visit us almost every day – or speak at Chicago clubs where we bring the books – and happily autograph extra books for the store. Many of the books are first editions.

Check out these titles we have in stock at the moment. And check our calendar, too. If a favorite author is coming to a signing and you can’t be there, we’ll be happy to have him or her autograph (and often personalize) a book for you. Come in, call us at 847 446-8880, or write to us at books@thebookstall.com

Authors We Welcomed in 2006

It was a very good year for authors who came calling, both to the store and the wonderful venues in Chicago.  Each visiting author, in his or her own way, reminded us why we love books and reading—and all of them made a point of expressing their support for independent bookstores.

It was fitting that MIKE LEONARD’s official launch for The Ride of Our Liveswas at The Book Stall.  Since its publication in April, we’ve sold more than 800 copies!

Two members of the 2006 “New York Times # 1 Bestseller Club”:  NORA EPHRON reached the top of the nonfiction chart this fall with I Feel Bad About My Neck.  ANNA QUINDLEN hit the fiction pinnacle with Rise and Shine.

Chicago Congressman RAHM EMANUEL and BRUCE REED spoke about their book, The Plan:  Big Ideas for America at a downtown event.

We were delighted to host the distinguished author KAREN ARMSTRONG who spoke at the Winnetka Congregational Church about The Great Transformation.

LISA SEE spoke about the much-loved Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

A November treat was provided by ED HEMINGWAY and MARK BAILEY, whose new book is Hemingway and Bailey’s Guide to Bartending.  Chris Kennedy and his wife Sheila hosted the party for Hemingway and Bailey, the husband of Chris’s sister Rory.

DA CHEN turned the autograph page of his novel Brothers into works of art—and he played his flute, too.

DORO KENNEDY BUSH signed her memoir My Father, My President in October.  She’s pictured here with Roberta and her sister-in-law Trish Koch.

Two-time Man Booker Prize-winner PETER CAREY came all the way from Australia to sign Theft:  A Love Story.

Book Stall friend ESMÉ RAJI CODELL author of Vive la Paris, joined Book Stall Children’s Department head Liz Moore for the annual Teacher In-Service in September.
